Growing up near New York City exposed Jane Flewellen to great art. In high school, she received college-level art instruction from a superb teacher. Jane pursued a Fine Arts major at the University of Michigan, concentrating on painting and drawing.
“I paint because I love beauty. While we experience difficulties and pain in life, we can also have pleasure and joy in beauty. Something remarkable will catch my eye…I’ll think, ‘Wow, I want to paint that!’ My oil paintings capture these unique moments of beauty to share with others.”
Jane is drawn to natural subjects, especially landscapes and people. Having grown up in the densely-wooded hills of New York, Jane often paints trees. She finds inspiration in the Columbus Metro Parks, the Ohio landscape, her neighborhood, and on vacations to Maine, Canada, Italy and Scotland. She is fascinated by the contrast of light and shadow, the nuances of color, and interesting lines and shapes. Sharon Weiss Gallery represents her work in Columbus, Ohio.
Jane’s piece “River Reflections” will be featured in Art for Life on September 15. See more of her work at janeflewellen.com.
