The Sharon Weiss Gallery
Frederick Fochtman is an oil painter, painting instructor, and art restorer working in Columbus, Ohio. As a painter, Fred travels annually to Vermont and the Atlantic coast in order to create work in the “en plein air” style. Additionally, he paints landscapes both locally and throughout Ohio. Fred is represented by Sharon Weiss Gallery.
Fred is an instructor at McConnell Arts Center in Worthington, OH where he teaches classes and workshops. Fred is also an art restorer and has worked on paintings and murals for museums, colleges, municipal clients, corporate clients, galleries, and private collections in Ohio and across the county.
“As a painter, I work from direct observation where time, shifting light and weather present challenges and opportunities unique to the method,” says Fred. “’Snowmelt’ was painted in spring of 2017 while making an annual visit to my friend and fellow painter Neil Riley in Marshfield, Vermont. As I recall, I’ve painted that field several times over the years. This time the sun appeared and changed the painting from ‘Snowfield’ to ‘Snowmelt.’”
“Snowmelt” will be featured in Art for Life on September 15. See more of his work at fredfochtman.com.
