Originally from Erie, PA, Denise came to Columbus to attend the Columbus College of Art & Design where she received her BFA, and then to the Ohio State University to earn an MFA. She has been exhibiting her work since 1978 and has enjoyed an extensive career teaching ceramic sculpture at the Columbus Cultural Arts Center. Her work can be found in businesses, galleries, and homes throughout the world. Noteworthy publications include 500 Animals in Clay and The Best of 500 Ceramics by Lark Books and the 21st Century Ceramics in the United States and Canada by the American Ceramic Society.

“Art has always been a significant part of my life. It has given me a means of expression for life experiences and the satisfaction and joy of creating something with my hands. Narrative, symbolic, or spiritual my ceramic sculptures bring to mind the forms and textures of plants, earth, or water. Sometimes incorporating human or animal subjects they may take on a more emotional persona.”
